Tom Ford presented its Spring/Summer 2027 collection at Paris Fashion Week on a runway framed by walls of mirrors, and the staging carried as much meaning as the clothes. The title, Desire Needs Air, sets up creative director Haider Ackermann’s reading of the house: seduction as tension rather than display. Models walked in pairs and groups, pausing in front of glass panes to look at themselves and watch one another through the reflections.
For models and agencies, the show reads as a casting document. Haider Ackermann’s Tom Ford is quieter than the flashbulb version of the brand, closer to a private hour than a public performance. That mood asks something specific of the people who wear it: self-awareness in front of a lens, stillness under observation, and the composure to carry tailored suiting and a bare plane of skin with the same calm. Not every model reads that way on camera.
Runway Casting: Mirrors Change the Model’s Job
Reflective staging is its own casting filter. A model on this runway is seen twice, once live and once in the glass, so the walk has to hold from two angles at once. Scott Barnhill opened the menswear in a fitted pinstripe suit, an olive shirt worn open across the chest, and a thin personalized scarf, a look that set the tone for the tailoring that followed.
Tailoring dominated, and Haider Ackermann kept interrupting it. Tuxedos appeared with low-cut tank tops, pinstripe trousers met impeccably cut jackets, and slouchy leather two-pieces gave suiting a heavier finish. Swim and underwear pieces joined the wardrobe rather than sitting beside it, with black cutout swimsuits, asymmetrical wrap styles, thongs, and men’s speedos worn under jackets and knitwear.
Haider Ackermann’s Archetype: Seduction With Restraint
Haider Ackermann described the intent in terms that read like a brief for talent. “Seduction is the pillar on which this house is built. This time I felt like pushing it further, closer to danger,” he wrote.
“There is something deeply sexual in a body that reveals itself without offering itself. I am not interested in provocation. I am interested in the risk of being free,” Haider Ackermann continued. Vulnerability runs through the collection alongside confidence, and the faces that fit it can suggest fragility without losing authority.
Campaign Faces and Model Book Positioning
For agencies, the show points toward bookings where polish outranks spectacle. Tailoring, leather, eyewear, fragrance, and swim campaigns all live in this mood, though no Spring 2027 campaign casting has been confirmed. A book that reads Tom Ford right now needs suiting images with an open neckline, one or two frames that suggest tension without shouting, and video that shows a model holding stillness in minimal styling.
The palette gives stylists their direction: olive, moss green, navy, black, and tobacco, closing in saturated red and then pure white, which points campaign forecasting toward fragrance, eyewear, and evening imagery rather than loud commercial work. Men’s boards have the clearest lane here, suiting and leather outerwear, the categories the show made most bookable. Women’s boards face a softer version of the same ask, where posture and calm carry more weight than novelty.
