Kendall Jenner Closes Bottega Veneta’s Lightest Runway Yet as Louise Trotter’s Spring 2027 Shift Lands

Bottega Veneta staged its Spring 2027 show in Milan on Saturday night, and the collection felt deliberately lighter than anything Louise Trotter has sent down this runway before. The creative director’s third outing for the house traded the dense fabrics and engulfing volumes of her first two seasons for crisper cloth, easier proportions, and a palette that finally let some sun in.

The question now is what that loosening signals. Bottega spent years reading as quiet, weighty luxury. Spring 2027 suggests the house wants its runway image to read as craft-driven and light on the body instead.

Season Three: Louise Trotter Loosens Her Grip

The critique of Trotter’s early Bottega runways was consistent: beautiful material, heavy results. Models were described as swamped by scooped-neck sack dresses and satin pea coats, and the signature intrecciato leather sometimes read as armor. Spring 2027 answers that directly.

“We’re a house of craft,” Trotter told reporters after the show. “Craft really is our logo, but there was a lot of work this season on trying to find techniques that brought lightness and wearability, but still have all of the incredible handwork that this house is capable of doing.” She pulled on knitting and stitching traditions from the Venice region, adding airy lace and crochet to lighter, crisper fabrics. Ahead of the show, she framed the collection as an observation of how people move between seasons, a study of winter protection giving way to spring, shaped by Milan’s four distinct seasons.

Crushed Cardboard, Leather Tulips, and Craft in Motion

The set made the argument before the first look did. Guests filed into a vast white space lit like a scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey, where rows of crushed white cardboard cubes each held a leather parrot tulip, handmade and deliberately imperfect. Seating came from Berlin-based artist Ilya Goldman Gubin, whose lacquered cardboard stools carried the same crumpled, tactile logic.

On the runway, intrecciato returned as detail rather than monument: baby leather scarves wrapped at the waist, a longline coat knotted at one side to reveal a light cotton dress, a T-shirt built in sturdy basket weave, and an oversized tote that read almost like raffia. Fringe supplied the movement, dangling from scarf-belts, whorled into bubble skirts, sweeping the floor from a giant straw bag, and forming a trompe l’oeil floral on a dress. Two fringe skirts, one lavender and one an earthy mix, lifted into elliptical shapes as the models walked. The lightness came from openwork and motion rather than the sheer fabrics much of Milan leaned on this season.

What a Lighter Bottega Signals for Runway and Casting

Trim, elongated tailoring over simple chinos and gauzy pink silk trousers replaced the volume, with shirts reined in enough that a bra edge showed beneath a short-sleeved white top. Trotter described the result as “a language between things being quite polished and a language with things being a little more organic,” adding, “There is this sense of being a little bit undone.” Color arrived in precise hits: butter-yellow trousers, a lilac blouse worn by Mariacarla Boscono, and a tangerine-orange scoop-neck leather midi. The menswear ran lighter, trimmer, and slightly bohemian, keeping one house attitude across both lineups.

Kendall Jenner closed the show, and the front row, Julianne Moore, Tyler, the Creator, and Jacob Elordi, ranked among the starriest of Milan Fashion Week. For casting watchers, the real takeaway is the walk itself. These clothes reward relaxed, self-possessed ease and a fluid stride that lets fringe and openwork register, not the rigid posture heavy tailoring once demanded. The pieces most likely to travel into campaigns and red carpets, the fringe skirts, the raffia-look tote, the knotted coats, are the ones that move on camera. Bottega’s runway image now reads lighter on the body and easier to photograph, without giving up the handwork the house sells.
